The Cradle of Forestry

Well, soon it will be fall again already. Summer went by fairly quickly, but it was a lot shorter than we had planned. The summer of 2021 for us has become the Summer of Breakdowns. Our air conditioning unit in the coach stopped working, the replacement propane regulator finally went belly-up (this was expected) and the trailer brakes stopped braking. ...

Sorry if you thought this was going to be an existential essay on the meaning of life, why mankind is put on this planet and our place in this universe, but I'm only writing today about why we're here at the Open Pond campground, and why we've stayed here for so long this winter.

First of all, we love it here. No secret there. If nothing else ...

We're here at the Fredonia KS airport, home of the Endless Foot Drag Fly-in. The fly-in has been postponed until the fall due to COVID-19, but we've landed here for a few days to get Michael Holliday certified as a trike instructor, take delivery of some Amazon packages and get the house closing done (well, hopefully get the closing done. It keeps ...

It's been a tough time these past six weeks, and it looks like things are not going to improve for a while. February began with me catching a case of the flu - the regular old kind, I'm sure. After the usual 7-10 days I felt much better, but by then the Coronavirus scare was taking it's toll: the Stock Market plunged, taking some of my savings with ...

If we get any more toys, our name will be so long even I won't be able to remember it. Guess we'll just keep it the same.

The latest addition to our toy arsenal is a pair of kayaks. It didn't take us long in the camping life to realize that, at least in the southeast where we've spent most of our time, most of the campgrounds ...

We have a new address! It's 191 Rainbow Dr #9128, Livingston Texas. If you put this in your GPS to come visit us however, we won't be there. In fact, you won't even find a house. It's a mail forwarding center and the headquarters of Escapees RV Club.

If you travel full-time in an RV, where do you live? It's something most ...

Ever since we decided to sell the house and go full-time in our RV, I've envisioned that last time we would pull out of the driveway and head down the road. Would I be smiling, looking towards exciting travels and explorations, and possibly a new home somewhere magnificent someday? Would I be shedding a few tears, sad to be leaving my childhood home ...

For all of you faithful followers of our web site, (OK, make that follower - you know who you are, Mama), I've made some changes in preparation for us going full-time in Weepy. Although I like the Camp Calendar, adding photos was a pain. And since we'll be continually visiting new sites and taking more pictures, I want the blog to kind of take over ...

It's now late September, 2019. We spent a lot of time at home this summer working on the house, and we made some big advancements. But, it still isn't finished and we are facing down another winter. We did some research, got some expert opinions, and decided to list the house with a realtor as-is at quite a lower price than we were hoping. The fact ...

We've heard some RVers use something called the 3/3/3 Rule: Travel no more than 3 hours to your next destination, arrive there by 3:00, and spend a minimum of 3 nights. Some also include something about 3 adult beverages being consumed once you've arrived as well, but I think that part is optional.

We thought the 3/3/3 Rule sounded like a ...

As I write this, we've been away from home in Weepy since late October, almost twelve weeks. Before this trip, our longest in Weepy was seven weeks, right after I retired. I have no desire yet to go "home" and I don't foresee feeling that way. If someone called and said the house had been destroyed, it wouldn't really matter. We've downsized ...

We were at the Pisgah Campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway last August, when near nightfall one evening a couple in a similar Winnegabo View pulled into a spot near us. We had been there a couple of weeks by then, entrenched in our routine of blueberry-picking, hiking, preparing meals, conserving water and tank space, advising newbies about nearby ...
