We left our winter home of Open Pond two months ago in early February. We thought we'd be moseying our way northward pretty quickly, but instead we've spent quite a bit of time in the Georgia and South Carolina area this spring, waiting for warmer weather. There's been quite a bit of late winter weather all over the country this year. Just two days ago here in Georgia, we were at 28F overnight. But, of course we've found some great camping sites while we've been stalling.

Hodges Field near Americus, GA was gem. Hodges Field is a private airfield owned by a long-time pilot and remote control enthusiast, Mac Hodges. He has about 20 RV sites with electric and water right on his field, a hobby shop and several hangars filled with great old planes. This will definitely become a regular winter stop for us and we hope next year to get a paraglider trike constructed for us to fly.

Croft State Park in South Carolina was very nice, with lots of trails for hiking or biking.

Lake Russell Recreation Area was a great boondocking campground on a beautiful lake.

One of our favorites was Watson Mill Bridge State Park near Athens, GA. You can see the covered bridge in the picture at top. The campground was small and quiet and the hiking was really great.

Low Gap was one of those places we had no business driving Weepy to! The road was three miles of one-lane washed-out gravel ruts, but one of the most stunning waterfall areas made the trip worth it for me.

Pictures are never quite good enough - at least mine aren't!

Today we are at the Fairgrounds Campground in Hiawassee, GA, ready to head into North Carolina tomorrow. Spring weather seems to finally have arrived. Then on to the northeast.

Ken and Tammy
Ken and Tammy - so glad you found us online! It really was great being neighbors and maybe the next time we meet at Prairie Creek we'll have less smoke to contend with. Enjoy your travels!!
Prairie Creek
Dawn & Check - great to meet you guys & be neighbors in the middle of no where!  Too bad about the smoke in the Sawtooths. Our shared campsite on Prairie Creek was a good one, and we ended hiking up Prairie Creek to Minor Lake (with all the Creek crossings) on our last day. Beautiful!

am I done flying?
I am behind reading your log..am I?  Any way, checking the calendar regularly, I guess I forgot the log.  So here I am, June 12 2020, updating my reading and feeling silly.
Onongava caves
Today I had time on my hands (nurturing a nasty cold since one week) so I traveled through the caves.  Impressive!  Thank you Dawn
Discus
Just moved around your site a bit and after, reading about your decision to move on, I and babbo too (he is now sculpting bears in Pietrasanta), wish you the best of times traveling, resting, and free.
