A lot of our time in Florida this winter has been dedicated to modifying the RV and the trailer. We've settled here in Fort Walton Beach at a friend's machine shop, making changes here then driving an hour north to Open Pond Campground in southern Alabama to try them out. So far our big mod has been adding laundry to the trailer. We'd picked up a Splendide washer/dryer combo that came out of a big class A motorhome on Craigslist. We fastened it to the trailer floor using engine mounts for a Rotax912 aircraft engine (that should do the trick), added a water inlet and dryer vent outlet to the side, and an exit for the water to drain in the floor. It works fantastic! I'll try to get a video of it all next week back at Open Pond.
These last couple of days we installed a WeBoost to hopefully improve our cell phone reception at some of these more remote places. We're going to wait to make sure it works well before doing anything too permanent, but Check made a pole for the antenna so we can boost it up about six feet above the RV roof.
It can still go up one more rung on the ladder
He also changed out the tires on the tote for the laundry water from those cheapie plastic wheels to some bigger rubber tires.
We can haul this thing at about 50 now!
Now I won't worry about a wheel coming off or breaking on one of our trips to the dump station.
These were the main things we wanted to get done this trip so I think our time in Fort Walton Beach is about at an end (unless of course we find out next week that we need to fix or change something). I'm glad. I'm ready to move on. I'm not sure where we're headed yet, but it looks like we going to try to eventually make it to Texas, possibly the Houston area. I guess I can't complain - the rest of the country is getting hit this weekend by a massive snowstorm! So I guess I'm happy to be sitting here in short-sleeves with the windows open wondering what to have for supper, and I'm definitely happy about all the modifications we've made.
